Brook Line Watermain (Eberts)

Consultation has concluded

This project focuses on the construction of a 600 mm wide concrete watermain along Brook Line extending from the Eberts Standpipe to Kent Bridge Road. The goal of this project is to respond to a request to improve water distribution in the North East quadrant of Chatham-Kent. The watermain will increase water supply in the area and provide an opportunity for residents along Brook Line to connect to municipal water if they wish.

The purpose of this Public Information Centre (PIC) is to provide you with an opportunity to review the project information, share your comments and ask any questions related to the proposed watermain construction on Brook Line.

Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission (CK PUC) has been approached by local greenhouses with increasing demands for additional water flow to their existing and expanding facilities. The greenhouse corridor is located in the Northeast quadrant of Chatham-Kent.

CK PUC has evaluated the system’s capacity to meet water demand requirements for the proposed greenhouses. The maximum water supply available at the proposed greenhouse locations was evaluated. System operational changes and infrastructure upgrades were analyzed to increase water supply to the Northeast quadrant.

The Chatham water distribution model results indicated that the installed infrastructure and current operational strategy is not adequate to meet water requirements of the proposed greenhouse located at the intersection of Brook Line and Kent Bridge Road. It was identified that the current infrastructure, has no extra flow that could be provided to the proposed greenhouse. However, with a new 600 mm watermain from the Eberts Pumping Station discharge to Kent Bridge Road, additional water supply can be provided to the proposed Greenhouse corridor and provide an opportunity for residents along Brook Line the opportunity to connect to the municipal water supply.

The purpose of this Public Information Centre (PIC) is to provide you with an opportunity to review the work and schedule related to the proposed watermain construction project on Brook Line from the Eberts Pumping Station to Kent Bridge Road in the Community of Chatham.

Description of the Works:

  • Installation of new watermain on north side of Brook Line
  • Water services connections from the new watermain to the property line for residents to connect to municipal water supply
  • Future water service connections along Brook Line Watermain
  • Tree protection for watermain construction in close proximity to trees
  • Coordination of construction activities for watermain construction across driveways for access by property owners
  • Erosion and sediment control measures when working in St Clair Region Conservation Authority Regulation Limits and in close proximity to municipal drains
  • Trenchless crossing of large municipal drains to avoid disruption to municipal drain operations
  • Traffic control to allow local traffic through construction work area during watermain construction and proper diversion and re-routing of traffic when watermain construction does not allow one lane of Brook Line to remain open
  • Restoration of Brook Line following completion of watermain construction and commissioning of the new watermain.
