Chatham-Kent Cultural Plan Update

The updated Chatham-Kent Culture Plan is being developed through a phased process that began in August 2025 and will unfold over 3 key stages. Led collaboratively by Monumental, ERA Architects, and the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, the project aims to enhance the community’s rich and multi-layered cultural landscape through a visioning process grounded in the following principles: defining culture within changing demographics, cultural mapping, strengthening alliances, encouraging local investment, and connecting culture to the broader community. This timeline outlines major milestones from project initiation through to the completion of the final plan. Each phase builds on the previous one, progressing from research and engagement to strategy development with a strong emphasis on collaboration, cultural mapping, and meaningful community input.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is refreshing its Cultural Plan and we want to hear from you!

This community-wide process will help identify Chatham-Kent’s rich cultural resources, from the tangible, such as facilities, historic sites, and festivals, and cultural assets that may currently be flying under the radar, like private artist studios and event spaces, to the intangible, including the traditions, stories, and creative practices that make each community unique.

By sharing your input, you’ll help to:

  • Define what culture means for Chatham-Kent, reflecting the diverse identities, histories, and stories across CK’s communities and wards.
  • Build a comprehensive, community-informed Cultural Asset Map to guide future investments, partnerships, and promotion.
  • Co-create a shared vision, values, and goals that will guide cultural development for years to come.
  • Strengthen the networks that connect and support cultural groups across the region.

Your feedback will help guide how Chatham-Kent invests in and supports culture. This online survey and mapping tool is open to everyone across Chatham-Kent, especially those who can’t attend in-person sessions.

Your insights will help us understand:

  • Where culture is happening
  • What matters most to your communities
