Elgin Street Reconstruction - Community of Wallaceburg

Scope of Project

The Municipality will be reconstructing Elgin Street between Forhan Street and Lorne Avenue in the Community of Wallaceburg.

This work is being completed to replace aging municipal infrastructure and address condition‑related issues. The project also includes upsizing the existing storm sewer as part of broader drainage improvements, including installation of a new trunk sewer. These upgrades will improve safety, accessibility, and the long‑term reliability of municipal services in the project area.

Construction activities in the vicinity of the Wallaceburg District Secondary School will be planned and phased in order to prioritize pedestrian safety and traffic to and from the school.

The project will include:

• Storm Sewer Improvements: Installation of a new storm sewer system, including manholes, catch basins, and new service connections to the property line.
• Sanitary Sewer Improvements: Installation of a new sanitary sewer system, including manholes and service connections to the property line.
• Watermain Replacement: Installation of a new watermain and new water service connections to the property line.
• Road Reconstruction: Rebuilding the road base and asphalt surface, along with installation of new concrete curb.
• New Sidewalks: Construction of sidewalks on both sides of the street to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility.
• Pedestrian Crossing: Installation of a new pedestrian crossing at Elgin Street and Selkirk Street.
• Property Restoration: Restoration of driveway approaches (to the property line) as required, and regrading of boulevard areas with topsoil and sod.
• Construction is anticipated to occur during the 2026 and 2027 construction seasons.
