Individuals & Families in Need Grant

Consultation has concluded

The Human Services – Individuals and Families in Need Grant is designed to assist local charities and non-profit organizations in Chatham-Kent in supporting low-income individuals and families with urgent, one-time needs. This funding is for situations where your organization or existing government programs cannot cover the cost.

The grant money is provided by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and is included in the annual budget for Employment and Social Services. It is not meant to cover your organization’s regular operating costs (like staff wages), and it’s not ongoing funding. Instead, it’s meant for one-time purchases or services that directly help low-income people in Chatham-Kent.

Your organization might be helping an individual, a family, or even a group of people, such as seniors, children, or people with disabilities.

Please note:

  • The grant is limited and may not be approved even if all criteria are met.

  • Decisions are made by the Director of Employment and Social Services.

  • Funding is between $200 and $25,000.

  • There is no set deadline, but it's a good idea to apply early in the year, as funds are limited.

The goal of this grant is to provide fast support in urgent situations, especially when it can make a big difference or prevent harm.

Who Can Apply (Agency Eligibility)

To apply for this grant, your organization must meet all of the following:

  • You must be a registered Canadian charity or non-profit organization.

  • Individuals, businesses, schools, and sports teams cannot apply.

  • The project must take place within Chatham-Kent. The funding is meant to support local people and local initiatives, not larger campaigns from outside the area.

  • Your organization must follow the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and promote fair and equal access for everyone. The Municipality does not fund religious or political activities.

  • If your organization owes money to the Municipality (like unpaid taxes or overdue grant reports), you will not be eligible.
