Shrewsbury Servicing Study

Consultation has concluded

The Study

The Shrewsbury Servicing Study was initiated to evaluate municipal servicing alternatives for watermain, sanitary, and/or storm servicing upgrades.

As part of this study, a Public Information Centre (PIC) #1 - Community Café was conducted on August 10th, 2022, to gather input from the residents on specific servicing concerns. At PIC #1, residents expressed concerns regarding the municipal storm drainage system. No significant concerns regarding water or sanitary servicing were reported. After a thorough servicing investigation, TYLin issued an interim report, detailing options for storm, sanitary and water servicing. This report recommended no improvements be made to the existing water servicing strategy, and that the community continue to be serviced by private septic systems for wastewater. The report recommended further review into the existing storm drainage concerns within the community.

As a follow-up to this interim report, through 2023, the Municipality has conducted an extensive topographic survey of the storm drainage network to better understand the drainage deficiencies present in the Community of Shrewsbury. TYLin has reviewed the data collected and identified deficiencies within the roadside swale network.

Public Information Centre #2

A second public meeting was held on January 24, 2024, to present the project findings to the community and receive input from the residents. Drawings of the community's roadside drainage network were shared and residents were encouraged to make note of any specific drainage related concerns they have related to their property. Approximately 60 residents attended the meeting, providing valuable information related to the drainage concerns.

A copy of the drainage drawings can be found in the Documents section of this page. The community has been broken into 10 separate sections/drawings. The Key Plan drawing will assist you in finding the correct drawing (PL1-PL10) for your area.

Next Steps

  • The Shrewsbury Servicing Study Report will be finalized based on the information gathered from the residents at the in-person PIC as well as through the Let's Talk page. Upon completion of the report, residents will be notified through the project contact list, and the report will be available for download on this page.
  • A report highlighting the recommendations will be brought to a future Chatham-Kent Council meeting. Roadside drain improvement projects will be subject to detailed design, Council approval and available budget.
  • It's anticipated that the construction work will commence in fall 2024 and continue into future years based on project prioritization and available budget.
