Strike Disruption for School-Age Children

During the strike disruption, the Municipality and the Province of Ontario recognize health care workers and child care workers must continue to go to work. In order to support them with the care of their school age children, funding is being provided to access care within limited spaces at recreation camps, day camps and licensed child care providers that currently have a purchase of service agreement with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

Licensed Child Care:

Before and after school programs that currently offer a full day program on non-instructional days (i.e. P.A. Days, Christmas break and summer holidays) are permitted to offer a full day program during this strike. Keep in mind this may not be possible for all licensed programs due to staffing levels and capacity limitations.

School-aged children that are already accessing a licensed space through either full fee or fee subsidy can continue to access the space for full day care if their licensed provider has space for them. Funding for eligible health care and child care workers can also be available for these spaces in their current licensed child care settings. Contact your child care provider for more information.

Days Camps and Recreation Programs:

Day Camps and Recreation Camps are permitted to run school age camps that have a purchase of service agreement with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. Day camps and recreation camps are asked to reserve at least half of their spaces to accommodate families of health care workers and child care workers. If you are seeking assistance with funding for a day camp or recreation camp and you are an eligible health care or child care worker, you can apply for assistance below.

Keep in mind this may not be possible for all camps and programs due to staffing levels and capacity limitations.

The Municipality requests proof of eligibility to be submitted with this application form, for example, an I.D. Badge or business card showing their profession.
