The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is reviewing the Vehicle for Hire By-law which includes regulating taxi companies, private vehicle for hires and private transportation companies that operate in Chatham-Kent.
The current Vehicle for Hire By-law was passed in 2018. The review of the Vehicle for Hire By-law is to ensure the by-law meets the current needs of the community and in the future.
Key changes to this draft by-law include an update to license fees, requirement for vulnerable sector checks for drivers and the addition of section 6.10 regarding when a cab owner ceases to be licensed. All changes to the current by-law have been noted in red.

In addition, we will be hosting a public meeting on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 4:00 pm at the Civic Centre, 315 King St West, Chatham, in Council Chambers. All are welcome. If you are unable to attend please provide your written comments to cklicensing@chatham-kent.ca or within the survey below.
Once public comments from this survey and the public meeting have been received, a summary of the feedback and the proposed by-law will be forwarded to Council for consideration.
Comments will be received until July 30, 2025 at midnight.
