Wyandott Street Reconstruction

Scope of the Project

This project consists of the reconstruction of Wyandott Street, from Cecile Avenue to Chippewa Drive, in the Community of Chatham.

The driver behind the project is the need to replace the existing infrastructure due to condition and age. In addition to upsizing the existing storm sewer as part of upgrades to the neighbourhood stormwater collection and conveyance systems.

Specifically, the project includes:

  • Replacing the existing sanitary sewer and service connections to the property line;
  • Replacing the existing storm sewer, catch basins, and service connections to the property line;
  • Replacing the existing watermain, appurtenances, and service connections to the property line;
  • Reconstruction of the existing asphalt road to an 8.0m pavement width and replacement of concrete curb and gutter;
  • Replacement of driveway approaches within municipal boulevards;
  • Boulevard grading and restoration.

In addition to the above replacement work, this project also includes installation of a new concrete sidewalk along the east side of Wyandott Street. Sidewalks are a key component of public infrastructure that support walking and provide accessible paths of travel for pedestrians. Sidewalks provide a dedicated space for pedestrians separated from vehicular traffic and contribute significantly to creating a pedestrian friendly environment. The provision of sidewalks and sidewalk ramps can be important to providing access to public transit, safe routes to schools, parks, neighbourhood amenities, as well as supporting walking/active modes of travel to any destinations.

Construction is anticipated to form part of the 2024 construction season.
