The Municipality of Chatham-Kent and the Municipal Heritage Committee have initiated the Built Heritage Public Policy Project. This initiative will lead to the development of a public policy that articulates Chatham-Kent’s aspirations for the preservation of its rich and diverse built heritage resources.
The public policy will define the community’s goals, objectives and processes related to built heritage and will provide a framework for decision making as individual heritage matters are considered over time.
The development of the public policy is guided by the project workplan (available in the document library) and includes 2 community surveys:
Survey 1 (fall 2024): A resident survey was launched to understand the community’s general sentiments on the topic of built heritage and gain input on specific topics that would need to be included in the policy. The input received was used to develop the Draft Built Heritage Public Policy.
Survey 2 (July 2025): The second survey was launched in July to seek community input on the draft policy. The purpose of this second survey was to ask you "did we get it right?".
As a next step: the Built Heritage Public Policy will be finalized with community input and presented to Council for approval in late 2025.
