Erieau Accessible Kayak Launches

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent invites the residents of Erieau to provide comments on the preliminary design for the planned installation of accessible kayak launches in the Council approved locations at the end of Third Street and Stass Lane in Erieau.

Community Input

The installation of accessible kayak launches presents an opportunity to provide inclusivity, enhanced water access and overall community enjoyment. The project seeks community input to better understand local needs and priorities, including preferred accessories or amenities, design features, durability of materials, and integration with the surrounding space.

What will the community input be used for?

Input will help refine the design to ensure the locations support active recreation and reflects community priorities. The installation of the launches will include a floating dock with accessible kayak launch, concrete dock base, paved or concrete pathways, associated signage, and a small area of passive recreation space. The project may also address overall accessibility improvements, safety features, and drainage. The shoreline and any existing sheet piling or break walls are out of scope for this project. The municipality has consulted with Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservations and Parks (MECP), the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), and the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA), to ensure environmental compliance and stewardship.

What are the next steps?

Based on municipal standards and the community's input, a final detailed design will be developed by a consultant and then issued for tender.
