The Municipality of Chatham-Kent applied for the Community Building Grant Fund – Capital Stream through the Ontario Trillium Foundation to install 10 pickleball courts and have been awarded the grant. We are seeking community feedback on the pickleball court locations.
The grant requires the project be completed on municipal land and that the construction be a new build. Existing pickleball courts or tennis courts are not eligible projects. The courts can be installed as early as spring/summer 2022 with a deadline of completion in spring/summer 2023.
The project includes pickleball court construction as well as installation of a pathway leading to the courts. Parking lots and trails may be added as future development in these locations but will not be included in the initial construction. These have been added to the drawings for reference of possible developments within the locations.
The following were considered in determining potential court locations:
Community need
Current recreational assets in communities
Existence of pickleball groups for organized play
Locations with appropriate space for court construction
Accessibility
Parking availability
After considering the above criteria in all communities, three communities were identified. The proposed pickleball locations are as follows:
Chatham Ellis Park 6 Pickleball Courts
Wallaceburg Jaycee Park 2 Pickleball Courts
Dresden Jackson Park 2 Pickleball Courts
