Water Street Reconstruction

Scope of the Project

The Municipality is planning to reconstruct Water Street from Park Street to the South Limits in the Community of Wallaceburg.

This project includes:

• Reconstructing the existing road, including replacing the catch basins and installing new concrete curbs

• Reconstructing and widening the sidewalks; and

• Replacing driveway approaches and restoring grassed boulevards that are disturbed during construction with topsoil and sod

To create a safer and more accessible street, the road will be narrowed from 9m to 7m wide to accommodate the wider sidewalks.

Construction is planned to begin in Summer/Fall 2025 and road work is expected to be complete in Fall 2025. Some of the restoration of the grassed boulevard areas may also happen in early Spring 2026.

Access to all properties will remain open during construction.

Parking Changes

As part of this project, there will be changes to the parking restrictions on Water Street. To enhance road safety and create a more accessible street for all users, parking will be restricted to one side of the road. Here is why these changes are necessary:

• Efficient Traffic Flow – limiting parking to one side on straight roads helps maintain smooth two-way movement and reduce congestion

• Safe Turns for Large Vehicles – snowplows, garbage trucks, and emergency vehicles need enough space to turn safely, especially in winter maintenance period
