Active Lifestyle Centre September 16th Event for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
over 2 years agoOn Friday, September 16th from 2:00pm-7:00pm at 10 Merritt Avenue, Chatham-Kent the Active Lifestyle Centre will be hosting a National Truth and Reconciliation Day and Orange Shirt Day event.
Attendees will be able to purchase orange hoodies and shirt at the event, and proceeds will go to local Truth and Reconciliation efforts.
Entry and tours will be free for the event, there will be over 50+ vendors, programs, and services present, and a free pasta dinner will be provided.

A discussion about Two-Spirit people within the 2SLGBTQI+ communities
We are living in a time of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples in Canada and many other colonized lands. But what about Indigenous peoples who identify as being part of the LGBTQ+? In this session, we will discuss what the “2S” in 2SLGBTQI+ stands for and engage in discussion with a panel of Indigenous Two-Spirit people who will share their experiences with indigeneity in the 2SLGBTQI+ communities.

Sept 12: Orange shirt pin making @ Community Shoppe
over 2 years agoCome Together CK Community Shoppe invites people to come together to make orange shirt pins on Monday, September 12th. Drop in to pick up materials or stay and make some with community. Lana Paterneau will be on-site to explain how the orange shirt pins got started and the meaning behind them. Located at the Old Sears building in the mall in Chatham.
Packages to make pins are also available at every library branch.

Stats Can Population Projections for 2041: Growing Diversity!
over 2 years agoToday, Statistics Canada's Centre for Demography is releasing a new set of demographic projections to 2041 on immigration and ethnocultural diversity for Canada and its regions.
The projections anticipate that trends related to growing diversity in Canada will continue. Another reason to learn about and incorporate diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in our work!
Key Points:
- about 2 in 5 Canadians will be part of a racialized group
- between 42-47% of working age people will be from a racialized group
- half of the Canadian population will be made up of immigrants and their Canadian-born children

See Different - Educational Program
over 2 years agoSee Different is a two-part, online DEI training and certification program for youth.
This program is offered free of charge to all students enrolled in a Canadian high school, college, or university, between the ages of 15-24. This age range is based on the UN definition of youth, and exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Topics include:
- Dimensions of diversity
- Equity and inclusion
- Power and privilege
- Bias, prejudice, and discrimination
- Allyship
- Conflict mediation
- Safe and brave spaces
- Social action
