DEIJ Strategy Going to Council June 26
Tonight, we will present the high-level details of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Strategy at Municipal Council.
With four areas of focus, the Strategy aims to support the Municipality, as a workforce and service provider, to be an active leader committed to prioritizing equitable opportunities, promoting diversity, and building a strong sense of belonging.
The Council report summarizing our work to date and Appendix with details about the Strategy are available along with the full agenda on the Municipal website (see agenda Item 16).
Thank you to all of the people and organizations who shared their perspectives and ideas to shape the Strategy, we couldn't have done this work without you.
The Strategy is being shared through an Information Report. Later this year, during our new 4-year budget process, Council will be asked to approve funding to support full implementation of the DEIJ Strategy. In the meantime, we will continue to implement action items that do not require additional resources.

Use this calendar to inform programming, communications, to better understand colleagues and the communities we serve, and to avoid scheduling events on significant days.
I am updating the Outlook DEIJ calendar to match this hard copy, for folk who have access. And, I continue to share local DEIJ-related events on the DEIJ Employee Portal you may participate in or share.
This month, we encourage colleagues to learn about Pride and share what actions you're taking this month and year-round to make the Municipality a safe, inclusive, and equitable workplace and community for 2SLGBTQIA+ community members.

May 2023 DEIJ Calendar
The May 2023 DEIJ calendar is posted below. The calendar is embedded with links for you to learn about the days in more detail.
Ways to use the DEIJ calendar:
- Share the calendar with colleagues
- Consider days of significance when scheduling important meetings or events to avoid potentially excluding some groups of people
- Know that some people may ask for time off to honour days of significance to them
- Ask colleagues if they are celebrating or honouring anything this month as a way to open dialogue about days that are important to your team members.
- Print the calendar and post in the workplace or in public-facing settings
If you’re an employee of the Municipality, you should also have access to the DEIJ Outlook calendar which is updated frequently with learning resources and local events taking place this month.
We also continue to post information and events in the 'Engage' section of our DEIJ Employee Portal.

The April 2023 DEIJ Calendar is now available for download through the DEIJ Calendar link under Important Documents or by clicking on the image below. The DEIJ Calendar has various days of significance with links to learn more.
Most Municipal employees should also have access to a DEIJ Calendar in Outlook that has days of significance with links as well.
Use this calendar to inform your programming, avoid unintentionally excluding certain groups by scheduling important meetings or events during days of significance, and to learn about the diversity of days observed by colleagues and community members in Chatham-Kent.

Le mois de la francophonie à La Girouette!
Mars est le mois international de la francophonie! Pour marquer l'occasion, votre centre communautaire francophone, La Girouette, vous présente différentes activités jusqu'au 31 mars.
Films de l'ONF - entrée gratuite
- Le mercredi 8 mars à 19 h 30 - Programme double : Ça donne envie de chanter et Ça fait jaser!
Dans le premier programme, huit courts métrages offrent un riche tour d'horizon de la chanson francophone au Canada. Dans le second programme, Éloge du chiac - partie 2 explore l'importance identitaire du chiac, parlé au sud-est du Nouveau-Brunswick.
- Le mercredi 15 mars à 19 h 30 - Programme double : Ça donne la bougeotte! et Ça éveille la curiosité!
Le premier programme présente six courts métrages d'animation vifs et colorés qui donnent envie de bouger. Le deuxième programme présenter la websérie d'animation La liste des choses qui existent, un voyage à travers l'histoire pour démystifier l'origine de certaines choses.

Dans son long métrage documentaire L'Ordre secret, Phil Comeau fait toute la lumière sur l'Ordre de Jacques-Cartier, une vaste confrérie qui, de 1926 à 1965, a infiltré tous les secteurs de la société canadienne.

Vous avez toujours été intrigué par le vitrail? Venez apprendre les techniques de base et créer votre première œuvre.
Ou au contraire, vous êtes maintenant prêt à créer une œuvre plus complexe? L'enseignant vous montrera d'autres techniques, telles que la fusion.
Coût : Pour les nouveaux : 150 $ (au lieu de 250 $), TVH comprise

Les classes d'exercices pour les aînés se poursuivent tous les mardis matins à 9 h 30 et les jeudis après-midis à 14 h.
Les classes d'Essentrics se poursuivent également tous les mercredis soirs à 18 h, à l'exception du 29 mars, où la classe fera relâche. 5 $ par soir.
Pour terminer, en avril, nous présenterons un cours de secourisme général avec réanimation cardiorespiratoire de niveau C. Voir l'affiche ci-dessous.

International Women's Day
International Women's Day Event 2023:
On Wednesday March 8th, 2023, take part in a Sunrise Celebration at 6:15am - 7:00 am, a Sharing Circle and Networking Breakfast at 7:00am-8:30am at the Deshkan Ziibi Indigenous Hub (495 King St. West, Chatham).
Event will be held outside & in tepees weather permitting. Bring: Blankets/chairs for sitting & utensils for eating.
There is no cost for this event.

As we continue to celebrate Black History Month, learn why the month is important to Chatham-Kent in this video collaboration with Chatham-Kent Community Attraction and Promotion, Buxton National Historic Site and Museum, Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society & Black Mecca Museum, Ontario Heritage Trust (Josiah Henson Museum of African-Canadian History), Buxton's Next Generation, Lambton Kent District School Board, Chatham-Kent Local Immigration Partnership, and Chatham-Kent Police Service.
