  • Volunteer: CK Reconcili-ACTION Committee

    Maawnjidimi Urban Indigenous Network are looking for volunteers to participate on a Reconcili-ACTION Committee to plan and coordinate activities and events for CK in 2023.

    The first meeting is on Wednesday, May 10th from 7-8PM via Zoom.

  • Series: CBC Windsor Halfway Home Series

    CBC Windsor has started a new 5-part series, Halfway to Home, that starts airing this week. In the series, folks who are newcomers to Canada living in Windsor-Essex give honest accounts of the ups and downs of starting a new life in Canada.

    The series can be heard on Windsor Morning or on the CBC Listen app. There will also be an event at the Windsor Public Library on Saturday, April 26th.

  • Event - May 5 National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Vigil

    Join local Urban Indigenous communities and Service Providers in honour of National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (Red Dress Day). See flyer for details.

    Deshkan Ziibi Indigenous Hub, 496 King Street, from 7-8. Event will be outside.

    There will be prayer, smudging, hand drumming, and guest speakers.

    You will see red dresses hung to represent the women and girls who have are missing or have been murdered.


    Please feel free to share with others, this event is open to everyone.

  • Walpole Island First Nation 29th Annual Spring Pow-Wow

    On May 20-21, Bkejwanong Territory is hosting it's Annual Spring Pow-Wow, M'nookmig Jiingtamook (Ojibwe). The event is open to everyone and free for the general public to attend.

    I've put some tips below the poster.



    About:

    Pow-Wow gatherings are a spiritual and social gathering where people come together to dance, sing, heal, meet old friends, and make new ones. It’s a time to celebrate and reconnect with each other and Mother Earth.

    Tips:

    Listen to the Master of Ceremonies – they’ll explain protocol to help visitors.

    There are a couple of Municipal Committees looking for members. Please share with folks who are interested. Both are looking to have membership that represents the diversity of communities, perspectives, and experiences of folks within CK.

  • April 4 - National Caregiver Day

    Today, April 4th, is National Caregiver Day!

    About Caregivers in Ontario and Canada:

    • 4 million people across Ontario are caregivers, with most between the ages of 24-64 (working age!)
    • It’s estimated that 35% of the Canadian workforce are caregivers. And, 30% of these caregivers are considering leaving their job to take better care of the person they are supporting.
    • 10% of all caregivers are turning down job opportunities because of their caregiving responsibilities.
    • Caregiving responsibilities can impact people in many ways, including health, wellness, personal relationships, and work life balance.
